Exercise 2 - (real audio) An initial exercise. The first step in learning the doodle tongue technique is to make the quality of the doodle articulations match those of standard legato. In Exercise 2 the da-ul (i.e. da-dle) articulation should match as close as possible to the da-da articulation. (None of the explanations associated with this exercise are shown here and only part of the audio demonstration is recorded here. Also, the notation displayed on this page has been reconstructed and is not the same as in the method book. )

Exercise 2

Exercise 73 - (real audio) A more advanced exercise using the natural downward slur. In the doodle tongue technique, the syllable ah (no tongue) is used whenever there is a single downward change in the overtone series. (The ah syllable must be preceded by a da or la syllable.) The result is a much clearer sounding and more evenly matched articulation. In Exercise 73 the line with the downward partial changes should sound as close as possible to the one without. (The original demonstration recording demonstrates both a slower and a faster tempo - only part of the faster tempo is recorded here.)

Exercise 73

Gigantic Steps - (real audio) Advanced - One of 10 etudes at the end of the method. These etudes are designed to be practiced only after the completion of the first seven chapters. (Only part of this etude is shown - all except the intro is recorded.)
